Goodwood

FOS, Members Meeting & Speedweek

Since 2015, Ric Wood Motorsport has been involved with either the Goodwood Festival of Speed or the Members Meeting each year since. The prestigious Festival of Speed is a hillclimb/timed sprint event held on the estate of Lord March; whilst the Members Meeting is an exclusive event held at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, featuring lots of action packed racing. We also featured at 2020’s Goodwood Speedweek, which due to Covid-19 restrictions at the time, no spectators were allowed to the event. But the hosts and everyone involved aimed to make the whole event more interactive than ever before with in car cameras and drone footage of the action. Goodwood Speedweek combined the best parts of the Members Meeting and the Festival of Speed into one event; the action packed races and the famous Goodwood sprint, yet this time all were held on the Goodwood Motor Circuit.

Many Ric Wood Motorsport builds have featured either at the Festival of Speed, Members Meeting or Speedweek. Right the way from our Mk.3 Ford Capri’s in the Gerry Marshall races to our Group 5 Capri in high-speed demonstrations. As well as our R32 Skyline at Goodwood Speedweek to Mega Bertha, and a BMW M3 GTR that was built a number of years back. All of which can be seen below. Other Ric Wood Motorsport run cars have performed such as a Holden Commodore at the Goodwood Speedweek event, and a previously owned Opel Astra DTM car which ran up the Goodwood hillclimb in 2015.

Ric Wood Motorsport have returned to the Goodwood Festival of Speed & Members Meeting consistently over the past 3 years or so with our cars quickly becoming fan favourites of the spectators!

Goodwood 81st Members Meeting

To start the weekend off, Jake Hill put in a storming lap in Qualifying, placing the car P3 on the grid with a time of 1:27.6 in what is increasingly becoming one of the most star-studded driver grids at the Members Meeting!

As the sun began to set on Saturday evening, the Gordon Spice Trophy 45-minute two-driver race got underway, with Ric up first he stayed out of trouble and nursed the car in preparation for the driver change, losing out on positions to the bigger V8 monsters; As the pit window opened, the car was brought in and Jake hopped in to get on his way. Hill made up several positions and put in some awesome laps, even registering a time of 1:27.1 and bringing the car home safe and sound with a 7th place finish, sitting best of the rest after the V8’s.

Sunday’s Sprint race got underway, with Ric managing to stay out of the chaos that ensued after a Mini and Rover collided and the V8’s from further back charged through the pack. Unfortunately, however, our race came to an early end following a electrical distributor problem.

Goodwood FOS 2023

During the iconic 1.16 mile Hillclimb shootout on Sunday afternoon, BTCC Star Jake Hill and our Group A Calsonic Skyline R32 GT-R set a new Tin Top Titans Hillclimb record of 48.18 seconds, winning the class! It beat the previous record by 0.78 seconds, a record previously held by Jake and our HKS R32 car set at the 2021 FOS! The time equated to a 5th place finish overall and our third class win at the Festival of Speed in a row!

Goodwood 80th Members Meeting

We attended the 80th Goodwood Members Meeting in 2023, participating in the Gordon Spice Trophy which is a race that consists of 70's & early 80's Group 1 Touring Cars, having won the race 2 years ago we were hopeful of possibly seeking out another win with BTCC ace Jake Hill at the wheel once again at the iconic event. The qualifying session got underway, and Hill managed to put the Gitanes Capri at the front of the pack, before unfortunately catching a bit of spilled oil on the track and spinning off hitting the wall and badly damaging the Capri.

The car was returned to the pits sat in pole position but in a very sorry state and only 5 hours before the evenings race. The team got to work on the Capri, replacing the steering rack and front suspension, and using brute force to bend and bang the chassis and bodywork back in place, before carefully checking and setting up the geometry. Crowds gathered around the car the whole day watching our teams every move, though no one expected the car to be finished in time. The car was finished 10 minutes before rolling into the assembly area. The Gitanes started in pole and managed to hold off advancing moves by the V8 powered Camaros from behind, managing to outbrake the brutish V8's at every opportunity! Jake took the checkered flag and the win for Ric Wood Motorsport.

The following day was just as much as a spectacle, briefly outlining it as the Gitanes started on the front row and straight away pulled into 1st before then being called into the pits due to the car emitting smoke.... The car was sent back out but now in 29th Place, which he then reduced to 21st place before a red flag was shown for an incident ahead. The race restarted with a grid start with 5 mins on the clock, Jake passed the checkered flag in 4th position, but due to another incident ahead, he was registered as 5th place.

Goodwood FOS 2022

The 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed saw Ric Wood Motorsport debut our Liqui Moly Group 5 Capri and saw our infamous Gr.A Calsonic R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R and V8 Holden Commodore take to the hill. Andy Middlehurst took the R32 up the famous Goodwood Hillclimb over the weekend. Both Ric and Andy managed to put in some great performances in the Final Shootout, placing 1st and 2nd in the Tin Top Titans class in the Shootout, to then having the Calsonic Skyline on display in the winners’ enclosure in front of the Goodwood House for the presentation! It really was another FOS to remember!

A big thankyou goes out to Andy Middlehurst for the fantastic runs up the hill he did in our Calsonic R32 Skyline! And also to Le Mans racer Nicolas Minassian for taking our Holden for a few speedy runs throughout the event!

Goodwood 79th Members Meeting

Richard Hammond and his Smallest Cog workshop team and camera crews shadowed the Ric Wood Motorsport team for the duration of the famous Goodwood 79th Members Meeting weekend to form part of their Discovery+ show. The crew followed to see how a historic motorsport team is run, in preparation for their own race weekends to come. Our Gitanes Group 1 Mark 3 Ford Capri competed once again in the Gerry Marshall Trophy races with BTCC’s Jake Hill and Ric Wood behind the wheel.

We qualified 5th for the first race. However, after a belt malfunction at the driver-change we lost a good chunk of time in the pits; but after a brilliant stint by Jake we managed to bring home a 4th place finish!

Goodwood 78th Members Meeting

After a long delay due to Covid restrictions and event reshuffling, the 78th Members Meeting took place on the weekend of the 16th -17th October 2021. The Gitanes Capri at the hands of Jake Hill stormed to a pole position finish in qualifying and then had a brilliant race with Jack Tetley in the Camaro Z28, but due to the V8 Power, the Gitanes finished in 2nd.

After a scintillating race in the Gerry Marshall Trophy Final with the two V8 powered American muscle cars of Craig Davies and Jack Tetley, Jake Hill and our Gitanes Capri managed to bring home the win! The victory is a brilliant achievement for both Jake and our team!

Goodwood FOS 2021

The 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb saw Ric Wood Motorsport enter our newly built Gr.A Spec HKS R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R. Jake Hill was the man chosen to pedal the R32 up the infamous Goodwood Hillclimb, following his record breaking run at the 2020 Goodwood Speedweek event. After some great practice and qualifying runs. Jake managed to set a blistering time of 48.96 Seconds in the Final Shootout, resulting in a win in the touring car category and 5th place overall; an amazing achievement overall and once again put on a spectacle for the crowds and viewers online, not bad for a 30 year old Skyline!

Ric was invited back to drive his Holden Commodore at the FOS after pleasing crowds at the previous year’s Speedweek too! Ric set a great time of 53.13 Seconds in the Final Shootout, meaning he captured 2nd in the touring car category and 9th overall! The results together meant we achieved 1st and 2nd spot in the touring car category, a brilliant result at a world famous event.

Goodwood Speedweek

Below are some of the many great shots and videos that were captured over the Goodwood Speedweek event. Ric Wood Motorsport ran two Mark 3 Group 1 Ford Capri’s one in a Pepsi sponsored livery, owned and raced by Jonathan White at his first Goodwood event. The other, our own Gitanes liveried Capri that has been invited to the Members Meetings since 2016.

Below you can see some clips and shots of our Calsonic Nissan Skyline R32 driven by BTCC driver Jake Hill during the Speedweek Shootout. And Ric driving the 2013 Holden Commodore also in the Shootout event.
