Holden Commodore VS

A very special car and practically unbeatable when raced in the UK

Imported from Australia where it was sucessfully campaigned by the Wynn's Racing/Gibson Motorsport team driven by Darren Hossack and Darren Pate in the 1997/8 Shell Australian Touring Car Championship.

It also competed in the world famous 1000km Bathurst race - pictured left descending from Paramount Mountain (also with David Parsons and Simon Wills driving)

The car is powered by a 6.7 litre V8 730 bhp General Motors engine which is specially modified by Ric Wood. Power is transferred by a Holinger 6 gearbox to a heavy rear axle. Fuel is supplied from a 120 litre bag tank via electronic fuel injection. Ignition will also be computer mapped. All aspects of engine build, tuning, injection and ignition are set up by Ric Wood himself.

With twice the power of the average 2 litre British Touring Race Car, suspension and brakes have to be top notch. Suspension is heavily modified over the standard road car with McPherson struts and Penske dampers up front and coil-over shocks and watts linkages at the rear.

There are driver adjustable anti roll bars on front and rear. Brakes are vented discs operated by 6 piston AP racing calipers. Brake bias is also driver adjustable. The car runs on 17x11inch "Technomagnesio" cast magenesium alloy racing wheels running 280/40x17in Dunlop tyres. Race weight is set to 1300 Kg giving a power to weight ratio of 561 bhp/tonne.

SPECIFICATIONS

Body	Four door steel shell. All interior features removed. Approved roll cage fitted for driver protection. Exterior - BIG.
Aero Kit	Homologated parts consist of: Front spoiler and aerodynamic under tray to give 100kg downforce at 120 mph. The design of this is critical to directing cooling air over the front brakes and engine. Side skirts and rear fascia. Aerodynamic rear wing (centrally mounted.) to give 200 kg downforce at 120 mph.
Engine	Ric Wood modified 6.7 litre fuel injected V8. Ric Wood Modified cylinder heads, intake system and fuel injection, exhaust system and management control system. Power output approx. 730BHP at 7,500 RPM 500+ lbs/ft torque at 6000rpm.
Transmission	Holinger 6 Speed gearbox as used by Holden and Ford race teams. Nine inch differential with a range of final drive ratios.
Rear Axle	Heavy duty with safety hubs, centre lock wheel attachments, adjustable camber.
Suspension	Front - Fabricated Harrop developed McPherson strut arrangement designed for racing with externally adjustable gas filled inserts. Fabricated front X member. Rear - Coil over shock absorbers, also externally adjustable gas filled. Cockpit adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars. Four Watts link rear arm and coilover Penske Dampers
Brakes	Four wheel ventilated discs. Harrop 6 piston front calipers and 4 piston rear. Cockpit adjustable front to rear bias. 14 inch front and 13 inch rear discs
Wheels	"Tecnomagnesio" 17" x 11" magnesium alloy.
Tyres	"Dunlop" - front and rear: 285/40 R17
Fuel System	120 litre capacity with safety bladder. Safety dry brake refuel system: 5.5 MPG.
Instrumentation	Original dashboard removed and replaced with electronic readouts. Capabilities exist for data logging computer which can resord lap times, speeds out of corners etc including tachometer and temprature and oil pressure gauges. Full Trackside radio telemetry system measuring braking, throttle, sustemsion movement , all engine fuctions, acceleration and G force.
